Career Highlights

• Mr. Charles Onwude is a seasoned Credit Risk professional with over 25 years of banking experience with key competencies and skills in Credit Risk Management and Audit. He holds a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Economics and a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in Economics from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. He has also attended several Executive Management Programs at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago, and INSEAD’s Online Executive Programs.
• Mr. Onwude currently serves as the Chief Risk Officer at Stanbic IBTC Bank Limited. His previous roles include Head, Risk & Corporate Affairs, Stanbic IBTC Bank Limited, where he was responsible for developing and implementing the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and providing oversight on the risk and control environment. He focused on embedding risk management practices and fostering the maturity of risk culture across Stanbic IBTC.   Prior to his appointment as Country Head of Risk, Mr. Onwude held positions such as Head, Personal & Business Banking Credit, as well as Head, Business and Commercial Client Credit, overseeing the entire credit operation in Nigeria. He was Chairman of the PBB Credit Committee that considered and approved all Credit applications.
• He started his banking career at Universal Trust Bank (now Union Bank) as a Relationship Officer and then progressed to become a Credit Analyst before joining First City Monument Bank Plc, where he rose to Senior Credit Officer in a career spanning over 11 years, before joining Stanbic IBTC Bank in 2015.
• Mr. Onwude worked with GBO/MDS, a Division of UACN Plc, as a credit controller before joining the Financial Services Sector in Nigeria, where he has remained to date.
• He is a Non-Executive Director on the Boards of Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Ltd and Stanbic IBTC Ventures Ltd.
