Mr. Charles Onwude was appointed to the Board of Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Limited on 15 September 2022.

Career Highlights

• Mr. Onwude is a seasoned Credit Risk professional with over 22 years of banking experience with key competencies and skills in Credit Risk Management and Audit. He holds a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in Economics and a Master of Science degree (M.Sc.) in Economics from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. He has attended several Executive Management Programs with both Kellogs School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago as well as the INSEAD Online Executive Programs.
• He was appointed Head, Risk & Corporate Affairs, Stanbic IBTC Bank, in April 2022 with responsibility for developing and implementing Stanbic IBTC Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework and providing oversight on the risk and control environment, embedding risk management practices and fostering desired maturity of risk culture across Stanbic IBTC.   Prior to his appointment as Country Head of Risk, Charles was Head, Personal & Business Banking Credit and subsequently Head, Business and Commercial Client Credit. He had responsibility for building, maintaining, and managing the end-to-end Credit operation in Nigeria, incorporating all aspects of the credit Life Cycle. He was Chair of the PBB Credit Committee that considered and approve all Credit applications.
• He started his banking career with Universal Trust Bank (now Union Bank) as a Relation Officer and then progressed to become a Credit Analyst before joining First City Monument Bank Plc where he rose to become a Senior Credit Officer in a career spanning over 11 years with the bank, before joining Stanbic IBTC Bank in 2015.
• Mr. Onwude worked with GBO/MDS, a Division of UACN Plc as a credit controller before joining the Financial Services Sector in Nigeria, where he has remained to date.
• Charles is a Non-Executive Director on the Boards of Stanbic IBTC Stockbrokers Ltd and Stanbic IBTC Ventures Ltd.
